Matilo Cares was born from a simple belief: no girl should feel that her circumstances determine her worth, and no family should feel forgotten by the community around them.

We believe that meaningful change doesn't always begin with grand gestures. Sometimes it begins with something as simple as a packet of sanitary products that allows a girl to attend school with dignity. A notebook that encourages her dreams. A warm meal that brings comfort to a family. Or a helping hand that reminds someone they matter.

Where we are today

Our journey began with supporting girls through education, encouragement and essential care. But our vision reaches further.

Where we're heading

As we grow, we hope to extend our support to more schools and young girls across Calitzdorp, Zoar and Ladismith, creating opportunities for dignity, confidence and brighter futures.

From 2027, we also plan to introduce a community food initiative, growing fresh vegetables and raising chickens to provide eggs for families facing hardship. Through the simple act of sharing what we grow, we hope to bring nourishment, relief and a little more hope into local homes.

We know we cannot change every life overnight. But we believe that showing up, caring consistently and doing what we can with what we have can make a difference that lasts far beyond the moment.

Because sometimes the smallest act of kindness becomes the beginning of someone's brighter tomorrow.
